Samsonite is the largest and most widely-recognized brand of luggage, travel goods and accessories in the world.

When Jesse Shwayder and his brothers founded the Shwayder Trunk Manufacturing Company in 1910, early travel was expensive and reserved only for the rich and exclusive few. Rather than compete with other luggage makers on price, Shwayder decided to charge a premium and differentiate his products through quality and durability. Their first trunk, named “Samson” after the Biblical character, became famous after an advertisement showing the four brothers and their father standing on a plank atop the suitcase, with the line “Strong enough to stand on.” This ad established the Samsonite name as the benchmark of luggage innovation and craftsmanship.
